What is Chinese New Year without a little fun and games that summon good luck? To usher in the year of the tiger in 2022, we organised a lottery game for Japan IPL Express customers over IG Live! It also marked our very first livestream. New year, hu dis?
Leading up to the “Let’s Talk Hairy Business” IG Live session, the game was open to entries from the 1st of 15th of February, which coincided with the 15 days of Chinese New Year. Anyone could join! The instructions were up on the Google Form linked in our highlight reel, and you just had to choose 5 numbers from 1 to 22. By day 15, we garnered over 1,600 entries.
Winners were then announced during a 30-minute IG Live session hosted by Esther Rachel and Dew Francis. They kicked things off by sharing their personal experiences with IPL treatment at Japan IPL Express, debunked body hair myths and spotlit the differences among common hair removal methods, such as shaving, waxing and IPL. We wanted to give our audience a better idea of what to expect through IPL Hair Removal and Skin Solution journeys. So that they can decide on how best to use IPL Shots™ at Japan IPL Express!
Numbers were randomly drawn on camera, revealing the results in real time!

Question: Is IPL painful?
Dew: A lot of people may be curious but on a scale of 1-10, I’d rate it a 3 — not because it’s painful, but it’s shocking because I tried Boyzilian IPL!
Esther: It’s very mild, like slight sensation when each IPL light is shone. Very mild, like “tiak-tiak” kind of feeling and it is very bearable!
Dew: If you’ve done procedures like lasers, it is nothing compared to that! Since I had my first IPL done on my intimate areas, cooling gel was applied before shaving down and during the treatment to soothe the area as it is slightly sensitive!
(Back story: Dew had his very first Boyzilian IPL done by a good friend of his, Jade Rasif!)
Question: Was the IPL process uncomfortable?
Dew: It was more awkward than uncomfortable, cuz my friend did the treatment on my private area! It’s a sacred and sensitive area y’know! It’s like having a person staring at your private parts, trying to make it look good.
Esther: Rest assured that our therapists are professionals, they’ve done Boyzilian and Brazilian for many customers too!
Dew: I’ll highly recommend men to get IPL too cuz hair grows in weird places — like under it and around.. After 8-10 sessions, you’re good. In the course of the treatments, you’ll see lesser and slower hair growth!
Question: Things to take note for first timers — Trying Brazilian IPL Hair Removal
Esther: The therapist will assist with shaving the area before your IPL session so the IPL light is directed down the hair shaft, deep inside your hair follicle where it needs to be. There, it converts to heat to destroy hair follicles so it grows slower, finer across consistent sessions!
Other than that, just relax!
Dew: Don’t worry about the process in the treatment room, if you imagine that it’s gonna be painful, I assure you that it is not! One of the key points you need to take note of is what you cannot do after an IPL!
For the first 24 to 72 hours after IPL, stay away from hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and refrain from suntanning and participating in heavy exercises. During this period, it’s best to keep your skin as cool and calm as possible, instead of doing things that would cause your body temperature to rise. Excessive sweating could aggravate the skin and lead to not only discomfort but possibly even increase chances of rashing. We definitely wouldn’t want that!
